Borehole Pump Donation Update

African Gift.

One of the most pressing needs of the people of the central African plateau is the lack of ‘Clean drinking water’. In some remote areas, the people, (mainly the women) resort to carrying the precious commodity, from sources often contaminated, many kilometres perhaps twice daily. This is normally in 5 gallon plastic containers balanced on the head (let the readers try lifting 5 gallons) a very heavy and arduous task. There is however in many areas much water, crystal clear and cool ‘below ground’ possibly 20 or 30 meters deep, sadly, to extract this for their use is not within the scope of most poverty stricken families or even whole villages.

When ‘Hydro Mechanical services’ offered to provide a submersible borehole pump for this purpose great excitement was aroused in one such village settlement, this is in Zambia’s northern province at a remote location between the towns of Ndola and Mufilira and not far from the Congo border, the settlement is called El Shaddai. The attached picture shows a typical family dwelling in the northern province. There is electricity available (intermittently) so the plan is to provide a storage tank to be filled when the pump is able to run, then piped to convenient positions close to the houses and school as communal stand pipe outlets. This is all part of an ongoing commitment of aid to Zambia by the congregation of Falcon Lodge Chapel in Reddicap Heath road. Sutton Coldfield. We warmly thank Hydro Mechanical Services for this generous gift.
